Cpt Ishar Singh gained his Victoria Cross for exceptional bravery and devotion to duty on the 10th April 1921, Haidar Kach (Waziristan). He was killed in action. Captain Ishar Singh was the first Sikh soldier to win a Victoria Cross, the highest award for valour in the British Empire.
